IBS is a Blanket Term

IBS is a blanket term doctors give to patients with a stomach they can’t fix. Symptoms include bloating, constant and chronic stomach pain, urgency to go, constipation and diarrhea. This can cause you to spend hours in the bathroom at a time, refusing to hang out with your friends because you don’t want to get sick from any of the foods they eat and excessive weight gain or weight loss. IBS can be isolating and create a lot of physical stomach pain that is hard to deal with. But there is a reason why you developed stomach issues in the first place and figuring out the root cause will ensure that your stomach issues never come back.

Find the Root Cause

You need to figure out why you developed poor digestion and then you can change it. The root causes of chronic stomach issues are leaky gut, food intolerances, slowed digestion, the gut-brain axis, stress, emotions, the gut microbiome, and gut infections. You may have been affected by one of these issues or all of these issues. Either way you are not going to be able to strengthen your gut until you look at these underlying issues.

You don’t need to have daily stomach aches. You don’t need to spend hours in the bathroom. You don’t need to isolate yourself from your family and friends because you can’t eat anything.
